El oriental.

Chorizo Carupanero

From Carúpano, on Venezuela's east coast — small, smoky, garlic-deep, and famous every December.

Etymology

carupanerocah-roo-pah-NEH-ro

Carúpano (port city, Sucre, Venezuela) + -ero, 'of/from'

'The one from Carúpano' — a sausage that carries its hometown in its name.

The pride of Carúpano

Every Venezuelan knows the name: the chorizo of Carúpano, the port town in Sucre where smoke and garlic became a regional signature. It's the sausage that shows up in hallacas at Christmas and on grills all year.

Smaller and smokier than its Argentine cousins, with a garlic backbone that doesn't apologize.

We make ours in-house to the oriental profile — a nod to the Venezuelan side of our kitchen family, the same one that brought the tequeños.

Asked at the counter

What is a chorizo carupanero?

Venezuela's most famous regional chorizo, from the port of Carúpano — smaller, smokier, and more garlic-forward than Argentine chorizo. Traditional in hallacas at Christmas.

Where can I buy carupanero sausage in Tampa?

At Renzo's — we make it in-house at our Tampa kitchen, fresh or frozen, retail and wholesale. Very few kitchens in Florida case it at all.
